Building a website can be an enormous and stressful task. You have to create a unique design and template as well as choose the right domain name. On top of having to choose a domain name, template, and even deciding the schedule for your content releases you have to choose your hosting provider. There are several different types of hosting all priced for various project sizes. Written below is a list of what I consider invaluable tips on choosing a web host that’s right for you!
- The first tip I’m going to give you is to begin your search for a web host using search engines. Search engines are made to deliver the best possible site related to your needs. Bing, Yahoo, and Google all want to make you happy so use them to find your web host! I don’t recommend click any of the paid “results” you receive on the top — first three — or the right hand column. Instead stick to the 1-20 results. Make sure to do your due diligence before buying any web hosting package!
- Think ahead and plan it out. Is your project going to be a small and personal website or a large and heavy trafficked website? These two factors play a large role in the hosting you will need. If you’re going to build a small and personal website, then a shared hosting package with a dedicated IP will work. However if you are going to build a large websites (many pages) and expect to receive a large quantity of traffic you should go with a reseller or even dedicated hosting package. Of course packages aren’t always that simple so it’s recommended you look at sever different offerings from various web hosting providers.
- Keep yourself with in a budget range. When it comes to choosing a web host you’ll have plenty of choices, but not having a budget will trap you in a never ending cycle. Once you set a budget and declare that you have a specific amount in mind you can find the right web hosting package for your project. It’ll make choosing and comparing much, much easier.
- Can your web host support all your needs? You don’t want to purchase a web hosting package only to find out it won’t even support your CMS (content management system). This aligns with a previous tip above “Planning Ahead”. If you plan ahead, you won’t run into this problem. The best way to know if you’re choosing the right web hosting package is to write down your needs and compare along with your budget. You kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
When it comes to web hosting and the offerings that are available they are abundant. Using the tips above will lighten your anxiety and hopefully create an easier way to find the right hosting you need. I wish you the best of luck on your project and future ventures!
