Learn About The Multiple Types Of Web Hosting

How many times have you searched Google, Bing, and Yahoo for a hosting package that is affordable and reliable? How many times have you actually received what you’ve paid for? More and more people are buying, building, and developing websites for both business and personal, but their lack of knowledge usually hurts them or their business. Why? Because they don’t take the time out to learn about hosting and what is available to them. They simply go with the cheapest and easiest provider. However this isn’t the way to go.

Just because the host is a cheap provider doesn’t mean they’re a reliable one. The normal hosting packages small business and personal people purchase are shared hosting. Shared hosting is inexpensive and can be set up instantaneously, but their are other packages available by multiple companies that can offer more for the same price!

Here is a list of hosting packages available now:

  • Shared Web Hosting
  • Reseller Hosting
  • Dedicated Hosting
  • Co-Location Hosting
  • Virtual  Dedicated Server
  • Manage Hosting
  • Un-manage Hosting
  • Windows, Linux, & Macintosh Hosting
  • Shared Web Hosting
Shared web hosting is usually the very cheapest hosting and can be set up instantly. The pros of shared hosting is the cheap price and easy setup, but the cons are much larger. When you purchase a shared hosting package you are normally purchasing a specific amount space and sharing an IP that others use. The IP sharing can make it difficult for you to rank in the search engines and acquire traffic. Your also have a limited amount of space. Of course if you’re just building a small website (low number of webpages) and don’t plan on updating too often then shared hosting is great, but if you are looking to develop a large website with heavy traffic then this package may not be the right one for you.
  • Reseller Hosting
Reseller hosting is the next upgrade you can make from a shared hosting. The name basically states the package. You are purchasing a reselling hosting package that will enable you to sell some of your unused space. Normally reseller hosting is purchased with the intent to use all the space for the individual or company websites. Reseller hosting offers a larger amount of space and is closely matched with shared hosting prices. An upside to reseller hosting is the ability to create multiple admin panels for individual sites. This will help you keep organized if you’re running more than 3-5 sites.
  • Virtual Dedicated Hosting
Virtual dedicated hosting is almost as good as dedicated hosting but priced more affordable. A virtual dedicated host will usually sell you a specific amount of space, ram, and memory. You also have much more control over the security and software that is used on the actual server. Companies and small business usually purchase virtual dedicated servers for mid-level size projects and fast growing websites. This is the type of package you would buy for a medium sized website that isn’t too large, but isn’t that small either.

While there are still many types of hosting packages it isn’t required that you know them all. Make a list of your requirements and pick a host from that list.
